How does a watch define a man’s personality?

With such a diverse range of time pieces to pick from, what makes a man choose his ideal mate in the world of watches, and what does it say about him?

The watch is more than an accessory. Unlike the ring or the chain, the watch involves complex engineering and craftsmanship. A man’s time is his own, and a time piece of unique grandeur demonstrates this fact.

A watch makes a bigger statement of a man’s class, style and life choices than any other item on his person. A man offers his hand upon meeting new clients and associates, and instantly represents and expresses himself through the statement that catches eyes which rests upon his wrist.  It also shows how much a person values a watch and whether they have an interest in horology.

Trend edit: Big dials, thin strap watches

An appetite for watches with large faces and thin straps has been on the rise in recent years, offering a stylish compromise between the big and bold and the small and delicate.

The result in some instances can be very striking, and provides an ideal wrist wear option for those looking for a watch that will easily let them transition between day and evening attire.

At Michel Herbelin we have taken a more subtle take on the trend, with a number of our models offering a thinner strap to allow focus to lie on the beautifully constructed dial. Our watches still keep practicality high however, with the strap remaining good quality and of the highest comfort level possible. With a thinner strap freeing up wrist space, this particular type of watch is also the ideal choice for wrist stacking, allowing you to combine your favourite wrist watch and jewellery for some eye catching stylish looks.

Here’s a look at some of our big dial, thin strap watches.

A treasured wrist watch made with tender loving care can last for generations, but sometimes all good things must come to an end.

In order to keep your watch in full working order, it should be cleaned and parts repaired, but after a certain amount of time some spare parts can be hard to come by, leaving your trusted wrist watch to lose its sparkle and shine, or in some instances become altogether unusable.

The good news is that Michel Herbelin are running a trade in scheme, meaning that if you have a broken or unloved Michel Herbelin watch, you can upcycle it to a brand new Michel Herbelin watch with a full two year warranty. If you’ve had your eye on a model from the new collection then this is something not to be missed. Continue reading

History of Divers’ Watches

Today a divers’ watch is a classic choice on the arm of any stylish gentleman, with its distinctive mechanical features and striking dials making it an easily recognisable model. Acknowledged for its practicality and as an esteemed fashion choice, its main selling point of impressive underwater resistance often comes as an added extra, not necessarily because people are using them to dive on an everyday basis.

Originally designed with underwater diving in mind, the dive watch typically has a minimum water resistance of 100m or 330ft, which modern technology and innovation is currently improving upon year on year. Naturally, creating a timepiece with water resistance capabilities has taken a great deal of skill and craftsmanship, which has been a work in progress since the 17th Century.
