Sporty Elegance with Neo-vintage Charm
Michel Herbelin French Watchmaking Studio has named its new collection of timepieces after an idyllic French Riviera destination: Cap Camarat. The first model in the collection, powered by a self-winding movement, exudes sporty elegance and a seventies-style neo-vintage vibe.
Seventies-inspired design
A modern interpretation of a vintage 1970s timepiece from the watchmaking heritage of Michel Herbelin, the Cap Camarat is housed in a stainless steel case measuring 40.5 mm in diameter. The polished facets of the case are skillfully complemented by a vertical brushed finish. The hexagonal shape makes for a sturdy geometric look accentuated by the crown protection stamped with the Michel Herbelin logo, and a vertical brushed steel bezel decorated with six screws.
Beneath a sapphire crystal, the graduated blue circular dial is a subtle nod to the brand’s signature nautical theme, with a horizontal stamped pattern reminiscent of sailor stripes. Vintage-inspired beveled hour markers and rectangular faceted hour and minute hands lend character to the piece. The minute track on the encircling flange and discreet date aperture at 6 o’clock ensure that readings are accurate and accessible.
Rounding out the aesthetic scorecard of this timepiece, the brand’s signature four-link steel bracelet is finished to match the case. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.
An ode to French craftsmanship
The Cap Camarat is heir to a skilled French watchmaking tradition rooted in the country’s Jura mountains since 1947. It was designed, assembled, adjusted and inspected in the Michel Herbelin workshops. It offers the precision of a fine quality Swiss movement: the Sellita is a robust and reliable self-winding movement that clocks 28,800 vibrations per hour and incorporates 26 jewels and a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is finished to an exacting level of detail, and the Côtes de Genève pattern of the oscillating mass engraved “Michel Herbelin” can be admired through the transparent caseback.
The Cap Camarat oscillates between the contemporary and the timeless, capturing the spirit of the Michel Herbelin French Watchmaking Studio: to bring the pleasure of a beautifully made timepiece to as many watch lovers as possible, at the right price.
